Stencil Grids

Why Stencil Grids? · Stencil Grids ·
Ways to use Stencil Grids

When I began to work extensively with templates I was having problems getting the templates to “line up” correctly.  I realized that I needed to make registration lines on the quilt so that the templates would work better.  I tried making all sorts of markings with all sorts of rulers, marking tools, etc., to find what would work best.

What I found is that rulers and marking pens were NOT accurate.  From the measurements on the ruler, to the way you held your marking pen, all influenced the accuracy of the markings. I began to look for the “perfect” way to mark the quilts.

I couldn’t find what I wanted so I designed Stencil Grids.  These are laser cut, translucent plastic stencils (like hand quilting stencils) that are 20 x 30 inches and sized in either 1 ½ inch grids or 2 inch grids.  Simply place the stencil on the quilt that is already on the quilt machine and using your marking tool of choice draw in the “open” spaces to create an accurate grid.  Once the grid is on the quilt top it can be used in a myriad of way.

Tip:  If you have problems with stencils slipping while you are marking, simply spray the back of the stencil with temporary quilt basting spray.  This will hold your stencil in place while you continue marking.

I use my grids for lining up templates and as “dividers” in background fill in designs – I know that you will find all sorts of ways to use your Stencil Grids.

1½ inch Grid, 20 x 30 inch stencil     $11.50

2 inch Grid, 20 x 30 inch stencil         $11.50

1½ AND 2 inch, Large  Stencil Grid   $20.00

As I have designed other templates, especially the border templates, I found that the large Stencil Grids were cumbersome to work with.  I  designed to grids on a smaller piece of plastic which works beautifully on borders.  The smaller stencils measure 12 x 24 inches and they work well on blocks also.

1½inch Grid, 12 x 30 inch stencil           $8.00

2 inch Grid, 12 x 30 inch stencil              $8.00

1½ AND 2 inch, Small Stencil Grids      $15.00

Stencil Shipping Policy
Because of the size and shape of the Stencil Grids, they are shipped in a separate box by Priority Mail.  There is a separate $5.75 shipping charge for the stencils.  If several stencils are ordered and are shipped in the same box there is only one shipping fee.

When you order your Stencil Grids via our secure web-card, you will be charged a shipping fee for each stencil ordered.  We will re-calculate the shipping charges to the lowest fee for your order and adjust your final amount.

Different Ways to use Stencil Grids
Even though the Stencil Grids were designed to be used with templates, I have found many different ways to use them.

The Stencil Grids were originally designed to be used with templates.  But as you will see, they can be used for many other designs.

This is my favorite way to use the Stencil Grids. This pattern can be stitched with minimal starts and stops and adds a lot of texture.  I love to use this behind appliqué's. It is quick to stitch and my customers love it!

If you love feathers, you can use the Stencil Grids as guides to create wonderful feather designs. This is especially useful in large areas which would need a lot of background fill in stitching.

I love Continuous Curve!   The Stencil Grids are the perfect way to draw the grid onto the fabric and then fill in with Continuous Curve.
