The Holiday Season Begins

Thanksgiving is this week and I hope you and everyone in your family has a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday. There are many challenges in the world today, but we do need to be thankful for all we have, especially for our families and those who have supported us during this past year.

The holiday "frenzies" will be here soon - if they aren't already! So many things to do and so little time to get them all done! And gifts need to be made, too!

Here are some ideas for unique quilted gifts and a great way to get your quilts completed.

Binding Your Quilts - Are you looking for a quick and easy way to bind your quilts using your home sewing machine for ALL parts of the binding, including top stitching the binding in place? Look no more! After 15 years of longarm quilting and many, many years of quilting before that, I have developed a binding technique that is quick, easy and all done on the home sewing machine. This technique is now an online class which you can "attend" at Longarm Classroom.

Table Runner & Placemats - If you are a quick piecer, there is still time to make the Autumn Leaves Table Runner & Placemats for Thanksgiving! If Thanksgiving is too close, this project would make a great Christmas gift for someone special! Easy piecing and easy quilting make this a great project for quilters of all skill levels and all types of quilting machines.

The Reindeer Pillow Top is a "way to cute" project made from your child's or grandchild's hand and foot print. This is a LOT easier than it sounds and it is a lot of fun! The instructions on how to do this is in a FREE online class.

The photo at the right is of a pillow I made for my grandson and appliquéd on the longarm!

This FREE class was popular last year and there is a wonderful story of how a quilter made this pillow from the hand prints of her (then) six month old granddaughter and sent the pillow to her son serving in Afghanistan!

If you are visiting with your children and grandchildren at Thanksgiving, take the time to trace their hands and feet (even your adult "children" will have a good time with this!)  and make the pillows for Christmas gifts!

Main Dish Recipes - At this time of year with all that needs to be done, the one thing - at least for me - that gets ignored is making something for dinner! I will be working hard and all of a sudden it's time for supper and I haven't made anything.

If you have a recipe for a main dish that you can "fix and forget" maybe for the slow cooker or a casserole, send it to me at longarmu@aol.com  and I will post them. We can all benefit from some new recipes.

A Machine Quilting Business Idea - Do you quilt for customers and you have a few open spaces in your schedule before Christmas to work on a few more quilts? If so, check out my recent Blog post for an idea to get a few more quilts to add to your schedule.

Black Batting - If you are working on dark quilts, you really need a black batting. Black battings are almost impossible to find, but my batting supplier has a limited amount of BLACK, Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 batting. Longarm U has this batting for sale for as long as the supply lasts.

For prices and details on this batting, including 30 yard rolls, King and Queen pre cut battings Click Here

I know how hectic life can get at this time of year, but if you do have a few spare moments/days consider making or quilting a quilt for the American Hero Quilt Project www.AmericanHeroQuilts.com This project makes and distributes quilts to wounded service men and women. I have machine quilted many quilts for this great organization and over the last week or so I have pieced two quilt tops which I hope to quilt very, very soon. American Hero Quilts are always looking for machine quilters - this is a great way to practice your quilting skills AND contribute to a worthy cause. If you don't have the time to piece or quilt for them, they could use your financial support.
