It is JUNE already! Where did
the Spring go? It
seems like one day it is cool and dreary and the next day it is
sunshine and warmth! It seems that as I get older (I don't
know how that happens!) the time goes faster and faster. Here in the
Seattle, WA area it is light outside until nearly 10 pm. I hope all
of you have a great summer planned and visit with family and friends
and are keeping busy quilting.
In April I traveled to North Carolina and had a wonderful time
visiting with my daughter and grand children and then teaching for
several in Elizabeth City, NC. It was a great trip and I met many
wonderful quilters. I also had fried green tomatoes and crab cakes
for the first time! I loved the crab cakes but I thing the fried
green tomatoes are an acquired taste.
It is so much fun visiting with quilters from other parts of the
country. We are so much the same yet we all have different styles of
quilting. That is what makes quilting so unique!
Feathered Wreath Mystery Quilt
Earlier this year Longarm University hosted it's first online class
with the
New Year's Day Mystery Quilt. (There are few
DVD's of the Mystery Quilt left. Click
Here for information about
this DVD set.) The response was so great that I am working on
another online class.
This new online class will be a semi-Mystery Quilt. You will get
some clues about the quilting and the tools that are being used, but
you won't know all the quilting details until you are participating
in the class. The details are still being worked out and I will
send out emails when all the details have been posted on the
website.

Quilts of Valor
In mid-April I was contacted by Quilts of Valor in North Carolina
and I volunteered to send a message to my emailing list about the
need for quilts for the wounded soldiers at Ft Brag, NC. I am more
than pleased to announce that over 125 quilts have been
donated. I am awe stuck and speechless that so many of you
have so very generously donated your time, your talent and your
materials to this very worthwhile project. You have made many
wounded soldiers very happy.
A list of quilters who donated quilts was kept and from this list,
Ruth Stonecifer from PA, was randomly chosen to receive the
$50 Gift Certificate from Longarm University. Way to go Ruth!
After I sent the email about Quilts of Valor needing quilts, I was
contacted by many, many quilters who are working in their local area
making quilts for VA Hospitals, other local veterans groups and
military bases in their area. I thank all of you who are helping
support our military and their families.
If you would like more information about Quilts of Valor, please
visit their website at

Another wonderful group which also donates quilts to wounded
soldiers is American Hero Quilts. Their website is

Question of the Week
My vision was to post a question and an answer each week. Try
as I may, there is a thing called "life" which sometimes prevents me
from posting as often as I would like. It is my goal to answer as
many questions as possible as often as possible. Please be
patient if there is not a question EACH week. If you have a question
that you want answered, please send it to
LongarmU@aol.com
A new question has
been posted about stitching a free hand border without turning the
quilt. To view the answer
