I would use a neutral thread throughout this block. The entire blocks can be completed with a single stop and start.  The leaves and Continuous Curve would all be done freehand. The only marking would be an "X" for registration in the  middle square.

The border leaves and swirl designs mimic the designs in the star block.  I would turn the quilt to complete the border.  The center block is done freehand with the exception of the circle which I would make and use a circle template.  The half square triangle blocks would be stitched freehand and could be completed with only one start/stop.

If the block is made with the background fabric plain, I would trapunto all the feathers and hearts using a matching lightweight thread.  The star points has a small design without trapunto.  Minimal marking is used, mostly freehand, can used stencils from Designs with Lines by Pam Clarke.  Inspiration from Diana Phillips, Jamie Wallen and Pam Clarke.

Minimal marking for the border is required. Center block, mimics center of star blocks, divided block carries over the accent design that surrounds the stars.  All can be done freehand. Trapunto half square hearts adding or taking out some of the smaller details.  Could use a stencil for hearts if desired.

Stars, feathers, swirls and landscape stippling.

Entered by: Cindy Roth, Renton, WA
I would use a matching thread for the background and I would not quilt in the star points. The center star can be quilted with one start and stop. The outer star is also quilted with one start and stop.

The feathers in the large blocks and the border are all done free hand. I would use matching thread in the background and possibly a slightly contrasting thread in the light side of the large block. The border is quilted in one continuous line within the workspace.
