Class Descriptions of Longarm University's Beginning Longarm Quilting

Four Day Workshop

In addition to the classes listed below, each teacher will tell you how she runs her own successful longarm quilting business.

Each of the teachers has their own "style" of quilting and brings many samples of their work to the class.  You have an opportunity to see trunk shows of different styles of quilting to inspire you in your longarm quilting journey.

Because the classes are small, you get a lot of personalized attention from each teacher.  You can ask any questions you want, even if you think they may be "stupid".  We feel that the only stupid question is the question that is NOT asked!

Freehand Quilting

Dian will cover free form quilting, fill-in designs and other techniques for the front side of the machine. Dian will spend all day giving instruction and providing hands-on experience.

Practice, Practice, Practice
On the fourth day of the workshop, Dian will return and help you to put all that you have learned onto a quilt top.  She will take you through the steps of receiving a customer quilt, deciding what to quilt on it and then to "just do it!"   This is a full day of intense instruction, but we keep it fun too.

What DO I Quilt on this Quilt?
You have a wonderful quilt top, but what quilting design do you put on the quilt?  Ione will use her ten years of quilting experience to show you what quilting patterns and designs work on several different (pieced and appliquéd) quilt patterns.  A combination of lecture, demonstration and hands on experience will give you confidence in choosing the appropriate quilting design for your project.

So, You Want to Start a Longarm Quilting Business?
This half-day class goes through the everyday operation of a Longarm quilting business.  The class starts with the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, and WHERE of starting a home-based Longarm business and moves on the discussing pricing, service forms and dealing with customers.  Class handouts will include lists of suppliers, books for reference and much more.  Upon completion of class, you will have lots of ideas on how to customize your business.
